Dear Arendters,
after a few weeks of stress, it is with great pleasure that we present you the first issue of La Voix du Collège for this year.
The fall of the Berlin Wall is one of the key events that contributed to build today’s European Union. And since this is our main, shared (and sometimes only) passion here at the College, we naturally decided to dedicate the first semestral edition to the 30th anniversary of this event.
A l’heure où certains présidents choisissent de construire de nouveaux murs, l’Europe reste chamboulée par les ravages causés par les siens. Ils sont encore présents, que ce soit sous la forme de barrières artificielles, ou de murs naturels comme la mer Méditerranée, où plus de 2260 migrants ont perdu leur vie en 2018 en essayant de rejoindre le continent européen. Mais les murs les plus difficiles à détruire peuvent aussi être ceux qui ont été créés dans les mentalités.
Naturellement, cela nous amène à nous poser la question suivante : trente ans après la chute du mur de Berlin, quelles leçons, quels héritages ?
The diverse students’ contributions to this edition provide useful insights regarding these matters and try to answer this contemporary question about the attitude of the EU and the rest of the world towards walls : build them, or destroy them?
