In the light of ‘l’Esprit du Collège’, the Belgians, Dutchies and Luxembourgians of the Manuel Marín Promotion decided to establish a fully-fledged Benelux Society. Sharing common historical and cultural ties, we are confident that our three relatively small countries embody what the European Union is about: respecting a rich cultural and linguistic diversity, enhancing solidarity and creating ties between citizens from within and outside the continent.
Cette année, pour la première fois, nombreux sont nos camarades qui découvrent la Belgique et le Benelux. Or, une majorité d’entre nous pourrait finir par travailler à Bruxelles, Luxembourg ou La Haye, des villes caractérisées par leur multiculturalisme. C’est pour cette raison que nous nous sentons investis d’une mission particulière : nous avons à cœur de partager notre culture avec les étudiants de notre promotion par le biais d’évènements fédérateurs et conviviaux, qu’il s’agisse de la visite d’une brasserie brugeoise que nous avons organisée le dimanche 28 octobre dernier ou du visionnage de matchs de football – le reste est à venir !
Toujours dans ce même esprit, nous partageons régulièrement sur les réseaux sociaux des anecdotes sur le Benelux – qu’elles soient amusantes ou à caractère plus instructif : au sujet des (nombreuses) langues que nous parlons, de nos monarchies respectives, de nos institutions communes ou encore de notre statut particulier en droit de l’Union.
If there is one thing Benelux countries have in common, it is definitely beer. While Belgian beer is famous and clearly appreciated by all of us on a (very) regular basis, Dutch pale lagers are also a thing. In case you did not know, Luxembourg has a long tradition of beer brewing, dating back to at least 1300 – and Bofferding, Simon and Diekirch are definitely worth trying.
Together with our Flemish friends Loïc and Florian, we had the pleasure of organizing a guided tour of a local beer sanctuary: the Halve Maan Brouwerij, located at the very heart of Bruges. Our visit of the beautiful premises of this Brugse family-business gathered 50 students. It included steep stairs, narrow spaces and low ceilings, a physical effort after which our fellow students had the chance to enjoy a superb panorama of the city and to taste some delicious golden beverages directly brewed there and served van ‘t vat: Brugse Zot and Staffe Hendrik. We were very pleased to hear that everyone enjoyed the warm atmosphere of the brewery on this freezing cold day and, for the unlucky ones who missed our event, we have great news for you: a second visit will most probably be organized in the second semester!
Au sein de la Société Benelux, nous sommes persuadés que l’Union fait la force, et nous attendons avec impatience de partager avec vous d’autres évènements lors de la Semaine (tri-)nationale, laquelle se tiendra du 18 au 24 février 2019. Le Bureau vous réserve de nombreuses surprises !
